Arranging an assessment

Outpatient appointments are booked through the hospital on the numbers below; international patients can ask for Michael Yu. Bring any previous operative notes if your nose has been operated on before, photographs of yourself from several years ago, and a written description of the change you want in ordinary words rather than a picture of somebody else.

What the consultation should establish

How thick the soft-tissue covering is and how much of the intended change it will show; which parts of the plan add material and where that material would come from; which incisions are on the outside of the nose and therefore leave permanent marks; how your skin type is likely to scar; and whether the profile problem is the nose at all or the structures around it. You should leave able to say which of those was found.

Asking about the plan

Ask what the nose will look like at three months, six months and two years, and why those answers differ. Ask what the donor site will cost you in the first week. Ask what the plan would be if the swelling has not settled at a year. And ask what would make this the wrong plan for your nose. A surgeon who answers that last question specifically is assessing you rather than presenting to you.

Before you commit

No decision needs to be made at the first appointment. Take the plan away, read it against the guides on this site, and come back with questions. A discount that expires, or pressure to book before the assessment is complete, is information about the clinic rather than about your nose.
