Meet the Nasal Surgery Team

The Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital is led by four consultants working inside a tertiary general hospital. Tongchun Mao, MD, is responsible for the medical review of this site. A nose decision in this anatomy genuinely involves the other three: the surgical second opinion on a nose that has already been treated, the assessment of how an incision will scar in a given skin type, and the dermatological management when pigment or a raised scar appears.

Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Nasal surgery · facial proportion · revision and reconstruction

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.

Dr. Mao begins a nasal assessment with the covering rather than the frame, because the thickness and quality of the soft tissue decides how much of any change will read on the surface. His assessment looks at the nose from below, from the side and from behind as well as from the front, feels the envelope, and examines the profile around the nose — the midface, the upper jaw and the chin — before discussing the nose itself. Where the target a patient describes exceeds what her covering will show, he says so at that point rather than after the operation, and he describes what the same operation would look like on her rather than on the example she has brought. If a donor site is part of the plan he explains what that site will cost her in the first week, because that is the part patients are least prepared for. He plans the first operation conservatively on principle, so that the tissue retains what a later operation would need.

Clinical focus

  • Assessment of the nasal envelope, and of how much a change will show through it
  • The profile as a whole, including the midface, the upper jaw and the chin
  • Planning the first operation to preserve the tissue a revision would need
  • Donor-site planning at ear or rib, and what that recovery asks of the patient
  • Setting expectations for swelling that lasts into a second year

The covering decides what you see

Two noses given the same operation do not show the same result. Where the soft-tissue envelope is thicker, edges are softer, detail is less defined and swelling takes far longer to resolve. This is the single fact that decides how the outcome should be judged, and it belongs in the first conversation rather than in the second year.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Plastic surgery · complex cases · revision

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team he provides the surgical perspective and the tertiary-hospital backstop — the assessment when an operation is the honest answer, and the hospital-level care for the rare complication that needs it.

On this site Dr. Wang is the second opinion for a nose that has already had an operation, and for the patient whose question is what the tissue can still safely tolerate.

Clinical focus

  • Center leadership and multidisciplinary case review
  • Surgical assessment when an operation is the honest answer to descent or excess skin
  • Hospital-based care for the rare complication that needs theatre-level management
Ke He

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin and laser aesthetics · scarring and pigment risk

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director and head of skin and laser aesthetics within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team her role is the device and injectable assessment, and the honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle.

How an incision beside the nostril or a donor-site scar settles is a property of the skin rather than of the operation. Her part of this site is naming that risk before the plan is agreed.

Clinical focus

  • Device and injectable assessment before any treatment plan
  • Staged planning judged against standardised photographs
  • Honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · healing and pigment disorders

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a dermatologist within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is medical skin assessment — diagnosing and managing pigment and barrier conditions, and treating skin that a device or an injection has irritated.

Skin that darkens or thickens at a scar is assessed and treated dermatologically at this hospital. His part of the decision is whether the skin will tolerate the incisions the plan requires.

Clinical focus

  • Medical skin assessment behind injectable treatment plans
  • Diagnosis and management of pigment and barrier conditions
  • Dermatologic care of skin after irritation or a delayed reaction

Start with what your covering will show

Arrange an assessment. We will examine the envelope as well as the frame, say where the material would come from and what that site costs you, and name the scars that do not go away.
